Ryan Parino, MA, AMFT

Although I have experience, education, and training in psychology, you will always be the expert on “you”. I therefore approach therapy as a collaboration where we work together as a team to hold space for, explore, and navigate some of the most important aspects of your life. I strive to build a unique approach to therapy with each client that values you as the other half of his team, and I recognize that what might work for one person may not be the best way to collaborate with you.

Most of my experience has been in receiving advanced training and education in attachment theory, substance use, sexuality counseling, and in the existential. I’ve worked extensively with people on achieving and maintaining sobriety, thriving in the face of depression and anxiety, building intimacy in their relationships, healing from trauma, and one of my favorite areas of work has been to dive into the existential areas of the meaning of life, purpose and sense of self. Thus far, I’ve found that I’ve been a solid fit for clients who are seeking a therapist to help them come to their own conclusions rather than a therapist who tells them what to think or do.

lf you would like to talk more to see if we’d make a good team, feel free to reach out for a free 20-minute consultation. Whether with me or someone else, I genuinely hope you find the right therapist for you.

How I work…

I view therapy as a collaboration between therapist and client, where each of us brings our respective knowledge and experience to the table to process life’s challenges and work towards your desired goals. Through working in different settings and with a diverse set of clients, I find that I am a stronger fit for folks who are seeking a therapist who will listen, validate, and when appropriate, challenge and explore rather than provide constant advice. It is also through these past opportunities that I’ve further learned that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all.

To that end, I strive to take the time necessary to ensure that my clients feel understood, respected, and valued throughout the therapeutic process. Clinically, my approach is informed by Motivational Interviewing (MI), Person-Centered Therapy, and Existential Therapy.

This is but a small glimpse, so I welcome questions about my education, training, and experience should that help inform whether I’d be a good fit for you and your goals.
