Michael Haynes, LMFT
At some point in our lives we find ourselves at a crossroads, whether that be through a sudden realization, a slow boil or a sort of falling apart. In each case, the crossroads is an opportunity for growth and an invitation. Anger, sadness, grief, anxiety, fear, and compulsions, to name a few, can be the threshold of initiation. As we learn to listen to our emotions, we may just find that they are a voice for the deepest and most authentic parts of ourselves.
How I work:
I provide long-term Jungian psychotherapy for individual client’s. Jungian psychotherapy is based on the psychological theories of Dr. Carl G. Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist who identified that human development relies on a process called individuation. Simply put, individuation is the process of growing into our own unique self and involves making our unconscious contents conscious, which then allows us to live more fulfilling lives by following our own inner wisdom.
Accessing our inner wisdom through Jungian psychotherapy requires an approach that differs from many mainstream psychological theories and is considered to be a large contributor to modern day psychodynamic theory. It requires a significant effort to understand the vast layers of ourselves which includes our personal unconscious, and involves honest inquiry and the exploration of both of our inner and outer worlds. Our work together will consist of exploring relationships throughout your life, exploring your night time dreams, daydreams, fantasies (unconscious content), your typology, your work situation, your hopes and desires as well as your fears. We may draw from fables and mythology as helpful guides and mirrors for what you are experiencing, and also engage in creative exercises that include drawing, journalling, and using your imagination.
I take a very person centered, compassionate, and non-judgmental approach with each of my clients, which is of the utmost importance in creating a safe holding space for this type of deep work. While I am primarily committed to working with my clients through a Jungian framework, I am also trained in the use of cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapy, person-centered, humanistic and existential treatment models. I am also trained in the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is an effective treatment for those working through trauma.
I provide therapy and counseling in Fair Oaks to individuals, couples, and families.
